Description

Established in 1946, the Portsmouth Historic House Associates fosters communication among Portsmouth's independent historic house museums to bring to a wider audience the history of Portsmouth, its architecture, its gardens, and its people. Discover a kinship with Portsmouth’s past in nine, centuries-old historic houses, some of the most important in America. Within these architectural treasures, a multitude of rooms with authentic antique furnishings reveal poignant stories of family life in a thriving seaport community. Seafaring merchants, enterprising women, military heroes, politicians, skilled craftsmen, domestic servants, Blacks, and new immigrants are some of the characters in the stories of these houses: Rundlet-May House, Gov. John Langdon House, Moffatt-Ladd House, John Paul Jones House, Wentworth-Gardner House, Wentworth Coolidge Mansion, Tobias Lear House, Warner House, Jackson House and Strawbery Banke Museum Information and hours are subject to change. Please call ahead for further information and special events listings. Visit our website www.portsmouthhistorichouses.org for even more information.
