HIKING & CLIMBING
Whether you join a guided hike or set out on your own with family or friends, New Hampshire offers endless opportunities to explore the outdoors on foot.
There are thousands of miles of scenic trails, including 1,200 miles in the White Mountain National Forest and a section of the Appalachian Trail. For peak-baggers, the state has 48 4,000-footers, while many other hikes offer spectacular views for moderate or little effort, and are ideal for less experienced hikers, groups or families with children.
New Hampshire is also home to some of the finest rock and ice climbing in the East-and some of the best climbing schools and guides. For more information on hiking or climbing, consult local guides or published guides, such as the hiking guides published by the Appalachian Mountain Club. New Hampshire State Parks, the White Mountain National Forest website and ranger stations are also good sources of information on hiking, as well.
You can also view our new State Parks Guide for more information, now available online by clicking here.
