Unmissable Experiences
Hidden beneath Central Square below the Abel Block building, you’ll find the entrance to Shackett’s Brewing Company. This modest brewery serves distinctive craft beer from seasonal IPA’s to hearty lagers and stouts along with views of the babbling Newfound River.
Nearby is a small but mighty waterfall by the name of Profile Falls, whose rushing waters are a must-see when traveling through Bristol and can be found along a short 0.3-mile stroll by the Smith River. From frozen cascades in winter to the rush of snowmelt in Spring, this hidden waterfall is an all-season destination.
Tastes of Bristol
The Bristol Diner is a great place to start your day where a fresh pot of coffee is always on deck and the classic small-town diner experience truly shines.
For on-the-go options, The Purple Pit has you covered with delicious breakfast and lunch fare like Pesto Bagels with fresh tomato and irresistibly melty paninis.
Come back for dinner at the Rib Room, hidden away in the backroom of the Purple Pit where mouthwatering Texas BBQ, craft beer and cocktails await!
The Homestead Restaurant & Tavern is just outside of downtown, serving up hearty plates of American comfort cuisine with an elaborate menu of wine and craft cocktails.
Shop and Stroll
A trip through Bristol won’t be complete without a stop at the TwinDesigns Gift Shop. Among the treasures and souvenirs found inside is a story to be told. The shop, owned and operated by twin brothers – is also home to their famous century-old turtle, Diane.
The Tonner brothers are master storytellers – and have published more than 10 Children’s Books together, on display at their shop. Plus, you can visit Diane the Turtle in her personal oasis, and come back to visit her anytime on her livestream.
Another truly unique stop is the all-encompassing Newfound Country Store. Here, you’ll find two floors full of everything you could need and want – including quirky souvenirs, locally-made goods, freshly baked goods made onsite, and a full service kitchen serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can even book a tee time on their brand new Golf Simulators, hitting the virtual fairways and enjoying cocktails for the 21+ crowd.
See the Sights
Bristol is a town studded with beautiful places to explore. Like Inspiration Point, a relaxing and scenic overlook revealed after a short half-mile walk through the forests near Roundtop Mountain.
The town is also home to Wellington State Park, which boasts the largest freshwater swimming beach in the NH State Park system. Here, you can enjoy access to the pristine spring-fed waters of Newfound Lake, which is regarded as one of the cleanest lakes in the world. No matter the season, Newfound Lake is a mecca for water activities like swimming, kayaking or paddleboarding, fishing, or simply enjoying blazing sunrises and sunsets along the shores.
Stay the Night
Perched on the eastern shores of Newfound Lake is the Newfound Lake Inn, a historic property overlooking this serene waterbody. If you decide to extend your stay, the Inn offers a private beach and access to kayaks and beach chairs for guests to enjoy glowing sunsets and a quiet escape.
Also onsite is the Pasquaney Restaurant and SAL’s Birch Bar & Roof Deck, where guests and visitors can take advantage of the views with delicious fare and specialty cocktails.
