Newport Winter Carnival, Newport

February 11-15, 2026

Every February, Newport transforms into a true winter wonderland during its beloved Winter Carnival. This year’s theme, Red, White, & BRRR, adds a patriotic twist to the festivities with a nod to America’s upcoming 250th anniversary, New Hampshire style. Visitors can enjoy classic winter fun, from horse-drawn wagon rides and ice sculpting demonstrations to a winter carnival pageant and plenty of star-spangled surprises along the way. The celebration kicks off with a parade, followed by the ceremonial torch lighting, setting the stage for family-friendly fun and small-town charm. Now in its 110th year, Newport’s Winter Carnival proudly holds the distinction of being the oldest continuously running winter carnival in the country, a tradition that continues to honor community spirit while celebrating the magic of a New Hampshire winter.

World Championship Sled Dog Derby, Laconia

February 13-15, 2026

Bundle up and experience the thrill of New Hampshire’s most legendary winter race at the World Championship Sled Dog Derby in Laconia. Known as the “Greatest Show on Snow,” this three-day event draws elite mushers and teams from across the U.S. and Canada for an unforgettable celebration of sport, skill, and winter adventure.  Arrive early to meet the mushers and their dogs in the staging area, where excitement builds before the races begin. When the teams take off, grab a spot along the trail to cheer them on as they race through the snow-covered landscape. Squam Lakes Winter Fest – Holderness

Alton Bay Winter Carnival – Alton

A beloved Lakes Region tradition returns this February as Alton Bay celebrates winter with its annual Winter Carnival. After last year’s cancellation due to a severe storm, the town is ready to welcome residents and visitors for a day of family-friendly fun and community spirit. The festivities offer something for everyone, including horse-drawn sleigh rides, Ice Cream on Ice, an Ice Sculpture Walking Tour with live demonstrations, kids’ crafts and games, a warming hut, and plenty of food vendors. Don’t miss the chowder fest and tasting, or the bob house decorating contest, there’s always more to discover at this spirited winter celebration.


Mt Washington Valley Chocolate Festival, North Conway

Calling all chocolate lovers! The Mount Washington Valley Chocolate Festival, celebrated as the Sweetest Day on the Trails, is the perfect way to indulge in winter, and in chocolate, guilt-free. This annual event draws visitors from across the region, many returning year after year for the unique combination of outdoor adventure and sweet treats. Participants can cross-country ski, snowshoe, or drive along the 45 km network of trails winding through the scenic Mount Washington Valley.
