During January of 2020, travel photographer and blogger Cait Bourgault (photocait) traveled to New Hampshire for three full days of outdoor adventure. Keep reading to learn more about the truly epic winter activities she experienced- skiing, fat biking, ice climbing...all with the stunning backdrop of winter in the White Mountains.
I was lucky to spend three days in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, thanks to Visit NH. As a Mainer, New Hampshire has always been a special place to me. I feel lucky to live so close but sometimes take it for granted! This trip allowed me to truly immerse myself in winter adventure and experience some of my favorite activities while also trying something new.
We met at Pinkham Notch Visitors Center at 6am, bags packed and ready to go! It was cold but we knew racing the sun would be worth it.
We transitioned our skis as the sun was shining on Mount Washington. Our first few moments of downhill were powdery and fun!
A New Hampshire sunrise never disappoints!
The trails are always better shared with friends! Photo by Brian Englishman.
The best way to end a ski morning - breakfast at the Sunrise Shack!
We checked into our Airbnb - a cozy cabin in North Conway!
The next day we tried something new! We rented fat tire bikes in town and rode around Whitaker Woods (pass required!) The dogs loved it just as much as us!
Early morning calls for lots of coffee! Frontside Grind is my go to in North Conway for delicious coffee, breakfast and treats!
We geared up at Northeast Mountaineering, a guide service in Jackson, NH. Their knowledgeable guides knew just the spot to ice climb.
An hour and a half north of North Conway is Dixville Notch, a quiet stunning area filled with mountains, rivers and adventure. I love this area of the state and think it’s so underrated!
Guides Matty, Dakota and Corey made me feel safe and ready to climb!
We ended the day at the Thompson House Eatery in Jackson. Their farm to table dinners and fancy cocktails made for the best end to our trip!
There are SO many ways to explore New Hampshire in the winter. From skating at Nestlenook Farm, climbing, skiing, fat biking, and everything in between! I feel so lucky to live close to this incredible state and to be able to explore it from different perspectives.
