Mount Washington Cog Railway opens FREE Base Station experience: the NEW Cog Railway Museum and Peppersass Pond live fish, Bretton Woods. The world’s first mountain-climbing railway opens a brand new FREE museum at their base station. Exhibits include their Emmy-award winning documentary, an interactive cog wheel and rack, and a bio-diesel train simulator. The railway also plans to stock the Peppersass Pond with trout for educational purposes where guests are welcome to feed them and watch them jump. Polar Caves Park New Climbing Adventures, Rumney. Offering the 172-foot Polar Ascent and the all-natural granite Polar Wall. The Polar Ascent is a fully-guided, safe and fun way to experience climbing. Challenge yourself to their 172-foot Via Ferrata or “Iron Road” and then repel back to base camp. Umbagog Wildlife Tour now offered by ELC Outdoors, Errol. This North woods outfitter and adventure center now offers tours on Lake Umbagog with calm waters, incredible scenery, and abundant NH wildlife, all from the comfort of a 24-foot pontoon boat. This trip is very informative and allows great photo opportunities and lots of fun for the whole family. Guests routinely see moose, deer, bald eagles, osprey, loons and even the odd black bear. The Famous Winnipesaukee Pier sold for $2 million, Laconia Weirs Beach. New owners East Coast Flight Craft purchased the Pier and announced immediate plans to add parking and picnic areas. Space will be leased to new vendors including a smoke house serving BBQ as well as other eateries. Their 5 year plans include reconfiguring the pier to a more upscale recreational and dining destination and plans to invest up to $4 million. Smuttynose Brewing Company recognized among the Best Breweries in the World for the 11th year, North Hampton. This local craft brew, founded in 1994, has once again been recognized on RateBeer’s list of 100 Best Breweries in the World. 100th Anniversary of Portsmouth Historic Society - Announcing 2017 Special Exhibitions, Portsmouth. “Four Centuries of Furniture in Portsmouth” kicks off the 2017 spring season (April 7-June 18) with 50 fascinating works from the colonial and federal periods. This classic exhibition will demonstrate why the fine craftsmanship of Portsmouth artisans is universally respected and sought after. “Seacoast Sculpture, from Material to Masterwork,” (July 7-October 1) will focus on works by three renowned locals in three different media--ceramics by Jane Kaufmann, metal sculpture by Sumner Winebaum, and woodworks by Michael Stasiuk. This flexible rentable space then hosts a free Star Island exhibit (October 19-November 19) sponsored by the Star Island Corporation.
