Art Workshop: Sculpting a Gestural Hand
Overview
Participate in workshops led by Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park's Sculptor-in-Residence. Registration is required and includes all materials and supplies. Space is limited to 10 students for each workshop. Students must be at least 14 years old.
Hands are complex structures that convey emotion and gesture. In this workshop participants will sculpt in clay, using their own hand as reference. Participants will focus on the anatomy and the gestural qualities of this very important feature. Understanding the forms of the hand is essential to a successful figure sculpture and also for 2D artists to represent them in a life-like manner in painting and drawing. This class is for all levels of experience, whether you are a complete beginner or want to build your skills with focused attention to details. Individual guidance will be given to each student within a supportive environment.
