Live Animal Presentation with a Naturalist at Lost River Gorge & Boulder Caves
Overview
Live Animal Presentation with a Naturalist: Animals with Bad Reputations
Event date: Aug 21, 2026
Lost River Gorge has partnered with the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center to offer a Live Animal Presentation, included with admission, beginning at 10:30 a.m. on select dates at the Forest Treehouse. Join a Squam Lakes Natural Science Center naturalist to meet two live wild animals you might encounter in New Hampshire’s forests, fields, or wetlands, learn about their roles in larger ecosystems, and discover the unique adaptations that help them thrive—perhaps even right in your own backyard.
Friday August 21 at 10:30 am: Animals with Bad Reputations
Think of conflicts wildlife have with people. The public images of many New Hampshire species are often inaccurate and can result in negative attitudes held by people towards these animals. In this live animal presentation, you will meet two live animals that have a bad reputation. Learn more about the lives of these animals, including the ways adaptations related to their bad reputations support survival in the natural world, and consider the good sides of these wild neighbors. Animal ambassadors may include (but are not limited to) the infamous skunk, opossum, porcupine, or snapping turtle.
Book your reservation in advance as capacity is reduced to enhance the visitor experience.
