The Power of Angels, A Fundraiser for Kitty Angels, Inc.
Overview
This May 2nd and 3rd is the 32nd Annual “Power of Angels,” which is a special fundraiser, hosted by Treasures Antiques, Collectables & MORE! to benefit Kitty Angels, Inc., and the excitement is quickly mounting. This fundraising soirée is from 9AM to 5PM, rain or shine, both that Saturday and Sunday and takes place at Treasures Antiques, located at 106 Ponemah Road in Amherst, NH. Heading into this year’s fundraiser, they have surpassed well over $125,000.00 of much needed support for Kitty Angels. With the funds from these fundraisers, they’ve been able to witness hundreds of success stories from and about the cats and kittens who desperately needed someone’s help. Treasures’ goal is to continue this endeavor and keep those happy stories coming…and bringing us even closer to getting all the homeless strays and abandoned cats into their own forever homes. They’re forecasting that this year’s event will be the best and most successful fundraiser yet.
The kitties say the vendors are eager to have you get out of the house and visit with them for some tremendous finds, great musical entertainment and most important of all, to help Kitty Angels, Inc.! The weekend festivities are being held at Treasures Antiques, 106 Ponemah Road (Rt. 122) in Amherst. Kitty Angels, Inc. is the sole beneficiary of this event. The owners of Treasures have been hosting these fundraisers for this non-profit since 1994. Kitty Angels, Inc. is a community resource, but is not connected with any town or government agency. Although some of their cats come from households which can no longer care for them, the majority of the cats in their care are the very neediest of animals, such as strays or feral (wild) cats, which are in urgent need of medical treatment. Kitty Angels is operated entirely by volunteers who care for the animals, do around-the-clock trapping and field work associated with the control of stray and feral cats, and act as foster care givers for animals that are sick or otherwise in need of special care and attention. While a few of these animals come into the shelter and go out to homes with nothing more than neutering, vaccinations, testing, and a veterinary exam, others receive many hundreds of dollars of veterinary care.
Their adoption program places several hundred cats into new loving homes each year. It also provides them with an opportunity to educate the public about the need for spaying and neutering and caring for their pets. The shelter also supports cats, that due to a variety of reasons, like health issues, can't be adopted out.
They have a low cost spay, neuter program that was initiated a little over six years ago, and, it has become one of their most important programs. The clinic is designed for people who otherwise would not be able to afford spay/neuter. Last year they doubled the number of clinics to twice a month and this year they are doing three clinics almost every month. Despite the additional clinics, the request for assistance has grown and they still have a waiting list. So far, they have spayed/neutered almost four thousand cats, for the public, at this clinic.
Another important part of their mission is to assist the feral population through Trap, Neuter, Return. ‘TNR’ is a humane alternative to euthanasia for managing and reducing feral cat populations. Cats are trapped, sterilized, vaccinated, ear tipped, and returned to the site where they came from. Each cat trapped is evaluated to see if they are stray or feral. Strays are kept and placed for adoption. They continue to monitor and care for many of these ferals in colonies in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Dedicated volunteers feed and provide water every day, watching for any issues with the cats. New cats get trapped and evaluated thereby keeping the numbers from growing. Since their inception over thirty years ago, they have seen the stray and feral populations greatly reduced. Kitty Angels, Inc. a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable corporation.
